Mebendazole is a synthetic broad-spectrum anthelmintic it inhibits the formation of the worm´s microtubules and causes depletion of glucose in the worm.
Mebendazole does not appear to affect blood glucose concentration in the host.
Mebendazole is absorbed poorly after oral administration. The plasma half–life ranges from 2.8 – 9 hours. Plasma protein binding is 95%. In man, approximately 2% of the administered dose is excreted in urine and the remainder in feces as unchanged drug or primary metabolite.
Mebendazole is indicated for the treatment of Enterobius Vermicularis (Pin worm), Trichuris trichiura (Whip worm), Ascaris lumbricoides (Common round worm), Ancylostoma duodenale (Common hook worm), Necator americanus (American hook worm) in single or mixed infections.
