Recognition from the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda (PSU)

The pharmaceutical society of Uganda together with the sickle cell association of Uganda organized a run to raise funds for the construction of a sickle hospital in Namere Kawamda, in Wakiso district. The run was targeting to collect two billion shillings to put up the facility that will help to reduce the cost of treatment of sickle cell patients. The centre will also provide born marrow transplant which is currently done at the cost of between 100 -300 million shillings, only done outside the country. The secretary pharmaceutical society of Uganda Opio Samuel and the executive director Uganda sickle association Ruth Nankanja appealed to government to scale up the quality of life of persons living with sickle through massive screening of people including new born babies and provision of polyvalent pneumococcal vaccines to all new born with the disease live
